Do you often find yourselves craving something in the night even after you’ve had a good dinner? While the best option that may seem, would be to go satisfy that craving. But how do you know what you eat as a late night snack is not going to overthrow your weight management efforts?

That is why we bring to you some of the easiest healthy snacks that you can reach for without thinking twice.

The body releases a good amount of growth hormone during the period you sleep.  And if protein is made available to the body during this time period, it would be used to the maximum level to help you repair, strengthen and grow muscles.

Here are some slow-digesting protein options that you can choose from:

  • Good old dahi!

Ingredients:

200 gm. yogurt or curd

1 tbsp crunchy peanut butter

Honey (optional)

All you need to do is blend everything well together and have a go at it. Easy and effortless!

  • High fibre cereal and milk

Ingredients:

75-100 gm. high fibre cereal (oats/ muesli)

½ cup milk

Handful of berries (any choice of berry would do)

High in fibre, easy to prepare, and gives you the combined goodness of macronutrient+macronutrients.

  • Cottage cheese + fruit n nut crumble

Ingredients:

75-100 gm. Cottage cheese

½ berries

5-7 almonds (crushed)

Put together the paneer or cottage cheese crumble and berries, top it with crushed almonds. You can even add a trail of honey if you prefer and you’re good to go. If you can’t get berries, you can add pineapple for the tanginess.

  • Peanut butter apples

Ingredients:

1 medium apple, sliced

1-2 tbsp peanut butter

This recipe is so simple, it is embarrassing! Slice your apples, lather them with peanut butter and you’re good.

When it comes to maintaining a healthy physique, correct nutrition plays an important role in helping build and maintains lean mass. To  promote a long and easy protein release throughout the night, your bed-time snack should ideally contain protein and some amount of healthy fat, while not being too high in carbs as that would spike blood sugar and can hamper your sleep quality.
