It’s the most colourful time of year as Holi has arrived! You’ve been planning the fun and games with your friends and family for weeks now. Holi is sure to bring you a lot of joy and fun! But in this fun, you have to be extra careful to protect your skin and hair from the damage that Holi colours can cause.
You might think you would be safe if you go for organic colours rather than chemical ones. Yes, you’d be safer, but you would also have to keep in mind that you’ll be playing holi in the heat of the sun!
With so many factors to keep in mind, let’s pay our skin a little extra attention to combat the aftermath of Holi! With these three skincare essential tips, go out to play a fresh, extra colourful and most importantly, SAFE Holi!
How do Holi Colours Affect Your Skin?
Most of the colours used in Holi celebrations are made from strong chemicals such as cornstarch blended with food, drug and cosmetic-grade dyes. These chemicals act to absorb the moisture from your skin, making it dry, flaky and more prone to acne. Using organic colours somewhat solves the problem, but every holi party you go to might not follow this rule.
So to avoid ending up with post-holi dryness, here are some skincare essentials for your closet.
Tip #1 – Apply Moisturiser on the Morning of Holi
You’ve woken up and gone for your morning shower before you head out to play. Now, apply a generous amount of moisturiser on your face, particularly behind your ears as that is generally a disregarded region.
This moisturiser will not only provide your skin with nourishment, but it will keep your skin looking brighter and fresher, even through the assortment of holi colours. Your moisturiser will also help hydrate your skin thoroughly. This hydration creates a barrier between your skin and the chemicals and paints used in your gulaal.
Hydrating with a good moisturiser (or anti aging cream) will also reduce the absorption of colours and dirt by your skin!
We recommend you try out our Youth Elixir Anti-Ageing Moisturising Cream. This anti aging cream is 100% clean, plant-based, cruelty-free and does not contain sulphates, parabens and mineral oils. It contains skin-brightening and anti-ageing ingredients like Phyto Retinol (Bakuchiol), Sweet Almond Oil, and Safflower. It supports up to 30% wrinkle reduction and a long-lasting youthful glow. You can buy it here.
Another anti aging cream you can try for Holi is the OZiva Bioactive Vitamin C30 Moisturiser. It is also a 100% clean and plant-based moisturiser that boosts your skin’s natural glow with Kakadu Plum Extract, a rich source of Vitamin C. It also helps boost collagen production for younger-looking skin, with Acerola Cherry and protects the skin from the ageing effects of free radicals with Rosehip. It refreshes the skin and reveals pigmentation-free, glowing skin with Saffron. You can buy it here.
Tip #2 – Follow it Up with a Strong Natural Sunscreen
After keeping your skin hydrated, the next most important thing is to keep it protected from the harsh effects of the sunlight while playing all day! Even if you’re playing early-morning or late-evening holi, it is better to keep your sunscreen on so your skin does not get overly tanned and discoloured. The harsh effect of ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to permanent damage to your skin, in spite of the water.
UV rays can cause sunburn, lead to faster skin ageing, could lead to skin cancer, and can even affect the power of your eyes and corneas.
Use a natural sunscreen that is completely free from chemicals, with a high SPF level. This will protect your skin from both the chemicals and UV rays.
Tip #3 – Protect Your Hair with Oil
Just like with your skin, holi colours are dangerous to your hair as well. They can leave your strands brittle, dry and damaged, and can permanently damage your scalp if they come in contact with it.
Even if you do not like oiling your hair, it is a MUST-DO before such a major festival. Before you step out to play, try rubbing in some of our OZiva Naturelle Infusion Hair Oil. This 100% clean, plant-based hair oil is made with love to help increase your hair thickness, but most importantly to ensure hair repair and nourishment. It retains your hair’s natural oils, lowers its pH levels, and strengthens and conditions the hair. This hair oil also helps revitalise the scalp and protect against dry hair.
You can buy it here! Keep using it for a few days post-Holi as well to ensure maximum hair protection later.
Bonus Tip #1 – Pair with the Right Nutrition – A Vitamin E Capsule
Aside from applying products topically to your skin and hair, ensure that your pre-Holi skincare routine also ensures consuming the right nutrition product! Ideally begin consuming it for a couple of months pre-Holi. This helps nourish your skin from the inside-out.
Try out OZiva Vitamin E capsules. These Vitamin E capsules help promote glowing skin and stronger hair, the perfect shield for your delicate skin in Holi times. Vitamin E is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, and it keeps your skin protected from the harsh effects of ultraviolet rays!
Natural Vitamin E has a much higher rate of absorption than synthetic Vitamin E, so consistently use our Vitamin E capsules for 3-6 months for the best results! Consume 1 capsule every day with a high-fat lunch or dinner.
Bonus Tip #2 – A Few Other Products to Help in Case of Any Skin Damage Post Holi
In case you notice your colours leaving your skin feeling a bit dry or damaged (such as pigmentation, tanning, discoloration), no worries! You can always take the right corrective action.
In this case, try out OZiva’s anti pigmentation serum. The OZiva Absolut Even Anti-Pigmentation Face Serum helps reduce excess pigmentation across the face and is a great product to try! It also ensures an even skin tone and reduces spots across the face in general.
